The issues raised in "Open Letter" are the lack of civil rights for the black community, for these people were not getting the same treatments as the white folks. The author uses explicit examples like when he talks about America's army helping Cuba when the country could not even help its own people. He also talks about the massacre where a lot of black people were being butchered like dogs by committing the crime of being black. The executive and the legislative power branches could have done so much for these people like give them equality, for example they could have passed laws that gives them the same rights not matter race, color, or sex.

  1. Thanks for the post! I like how you really summerized the "Open letter to Pres. Mckinley" and used the details that stood out most to you. With all the power in their grasps the Government on all accords could not or would not for that matter address what was so abundantly clear. Freed slaves during and after the reconstruction era were simply intimidated by their former suppressors and the manipulative mindset of that white generation. With that being said I liked how you were able to bring some of this into light and display your knowledge of that "Open Letter." Good Job!

    Enjoy!
